UPDATE (4/11/24): A former Bibb County JROTC Instructor was sentenced to 50 years, with the first 25 to be served in prison, after pleading guilty last month to child molestation, enticing a child for indecent purposes and sexual contact by a person in a position of trust.
Charles Jackson will also be required to be on Georgia’s Sex Offender Registry for the rest of his life.
According to a news release from Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney Anita Howard’s office, Jackson’s charges stemmed from his “explicitly inappropriate” 2022 contacts with a minor female.
Prosecutors say Jackson took advantage of his victim’s vulnerability following her molestation by her father, committing the acts on multiple occasions at both the school and a local church. The DA’s Office says the victim’s father was prosecuted in another jurisdiction.
“It is so tragic when an individual who fought his country and afterward goes into a position of trust for young people becomes the community’s worst nightmare rather than a mentor,” the release stated. “It is vitally important that anyone who has information about such nefarious activities come forward to report them so that we, collectively, put a stop to those who would do harm to our most vulnerable.”
The DA’s Office thanked the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office’s Crimes Against Children Division for its investigation and assistance with Jackson’s prosecution.
